The idea of UBD FM radio station was proposed by the 2008/2009 Student Representative Council, Khalil Kashfi and then it was agreed and advised by the Head, Educational Technology Centre, Dr Hanapi Mohammad. The very first deejay audition and crew recruitment was held on 18th March 2009 at ETC, UBD. In August 2009, it was when the journey of UBD FM begun- the first university based radio station, though the broadcasting was limited via streaming only.

The purpose of the introduction of the radio station was to ensure a more private campus which is in lined with the initiatives that support the new Generation Next degree intakes. It is corresponding to UBD fm's motto, ' A Station for the Next Generation'. In addition, it serves as a medium for sharing information, as an encouragement, motivation and positive influence to develop a good community out of the new generation in the academic aspect.

Currently, UBD FM deejays and radio crews worked voluntarily in enjoyable and pressuring moments to bring UBD FM up, besides to raise the standard of the University and promote UBD globally.
